Since I just got a PS2, naturally all the games I want are all on Greatest Hits, making it much easier to amass a small collection. DMC2 comes out and I finally get DMC.

Anyway, after playing through on normal I was overjoyed to find that you can continue on in the next difficulty with all of your equipment etc from your previous game. Sadly, however, I also found normal to be quite difficult, making Hard damn near impossible. I also heard that there's a Dante May Cry (or was it Dante Must Die?) mode after hard.

Going into Hard I knew it wasn't going to be easy, but I couldn't get past the first Shadow I saw!! They were a pain to start with, now they're just fucking impossible, and I don't even want to think about Mundus!

So, in short: ........help.......

"The body is but a vessel for the soul, a puppet which bends to the soul's tyranny. And lo, the body is not eternal, for it must feed on the flesh of others lest it return to the dust from whence it came. Therefore must the soul decieve, despise, and murder men." - AJ Durai

Yeah, the thing about the difficulty levels is that in DMC the make the enemies far more numerous, make them do their most powerful attacks more often and usually they're alot faster as well. The upside is it take about the same amount of damge to kill the bastards, the trick is living long enough to do it.
My main advice is to buy up blue and purple orbs and make sure you've got the best moves (Inferno is a must). I find that the best way to defeat the Shadows on any difficulty level is to blast away at them with the shotgun, jumping away whenever they take to the air, and letting rip with the devil trigger when they reveal their core. I should'nt be to worried about Mundus, he's not that much harder to topple and Nightmare is still a pain, but it's Nero Angelo who hands out the most grief in your third battle. The man is a fucking lunatic with that sword of his and will happily carve you a new one in two easy strokes, my only advice there is to really work on your swordplay.
Finally, the Dante must Die level is much like it's predecessor only you have set time limits before all the enemies become invincible and the Bosses can only be harmed by devil trigger attacks.

A tactic that usually works on Nelo Angelo is jumping over his sword swipes, going over his head, and bringing your sword down on him from ouut of the air. It's slow as hell, but it's the best way to not die...except of course when he floats around and fires those phantom blades at you.

Actually though, Mundus isn't as hard as any of the other bosses, so he should be a lot easier for you to topple if you can get through Nightmare and Nelo Angelo. Just use that one super attack during the air battle with him and fire Devil trigger blasts at him in the lava pit.

I found him to be the easiest boss in the game. It's a pity really. Any of his cronies could have taken the throne from him if they would have tried...

And about DMC2, it's a decent game, but don't buy it expecting something better (or even as good as) DMC1. It will only let you down.

Thats when you've got to jump for all your worth and hit him before he can summon his blades. I used to dry dodging the bastards, but it's far simpler to just knock him from the air. Unless of course he does that thing where he gets them all spinnig round him while he's on the ground and is free to take sword bashings at you, then you've got to run like crap!

I used to try that, but every time that I did, he'd summon the blades and nail me before I could touch him. So I ended up learning to just stay away. Sure, I usually get hit anyway even then, but I get hit a lot less than when I try to go gung-ho on him.

Another big problem with fighting Nelo Angelo is that you have to fight the Frosts before you get to him, and there's nowhere to get another Vital Star of you use it up against them.

They're such assholes...

Inferno all the way man. Pull of a couple of those babies and they'll be toast before they can so much as flinch. So long as they not doing either the move where they incase themselves in ice or the one that is like Inferno only with ice they should die pretty quickly.

Neo Angelo and Nightmare were ten fold stronger than Mundus. I just activated the devil trigger with Mundus and got close enough to slash him. It won't take long like that.

With Nightmare though... Damn, I died so many times on that thing. I'm usually pumping pistols into that thing, but when an opportunity presented itself, I slashed as much as I could.

With Neo Angelo, though, I didn't have as much trouble. I just had Ifrit equipped and constantly fired the pistols, using Devil Trigger as soon as it was available. The only time I had much trouble was with the blades, which I could dodge most of the time.

As far as hard and Dante must die, I never really got around to it. When I saw Shadows as random enemies, I threw down the controller and said "Fuck it." (Biggs's strategy works, but in narrow hallways I have a hard time dodging.)

Nightmare? NIGHTMARE?!

You must be kidding.

I'll admit I died a few times, but only because I didn't know the strategy. But once I learned the tactics, and what you can gain by letting him pull you under... man, the guy was toast. All 3 times.

I found Mundus to be annoying, but not hard. Mostly because of the platforms and the fact that I could never devil trigger for long.

Although I must admit I haven't played on the harder difficulties yet. I got the damn thing for $10 new.
