THE INVISABLE KILLER!!!
Dihydrogenmonoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and KILLS uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of hese deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of DHMO do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO can include excessive sweating, urinations, and posibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vmiting, and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.
DHMO...
is also knownw as hydroxl acid, and is the major component of acid rain...
contributes to the green house effect....
may cause severe burns...
contributes to the erosion of ou natural landscape...
accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals...
may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes...
has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.
CONTAMINATION!
Quantities of DHMO have been found in almost every stream, lake, and reservoir in AMERICA today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminat has even been found int the antarctic ice. DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage in the mid west, and recently california.
HOW IT IS USED!
As an industrial solvent and coolant
In Nuclear power plants
in the production of styrofoam
as fire retardant
in many forms of cruel animal research
in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.
as additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.
Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the OCEAN, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is STILL LEGAL. The impact on wildlife is EXTREM, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer!
THE HORRO MUST BE STOPPED!
The american government has refused to ban the production, distribution, or use of this damaging chemical due to its "importance to the economic health of this nation." In fact, the navy and other military organizations are conducting experiments with DHMO, and designing multi-billion dollar devices to control and utilize it during WARFARE situations. Hundreds of military research facilities receive tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use.
ITS NOT TOO LATE!
Act NOW to prevent further CONTAMINATION. Find out more about this dangerous chemical, What you don't know CAN hurt you and others throughout the world.
Okay if you think we should ban this reply agree to ban it, and if not say no we shouldn't ban it. K?
And If anyone understands what I just told you email me at Trinoya@lycos.com, first one to email me with what I am really saying up there is the victor. What do you win? um....... you win the knowledge that your smarter then some one else... first one to email me correctly that is. ^_^

this thing I just thought was very cute and the fact that out of the majoirty of the chemistry classes a total of 7 people got it. Indeed DHMO is H2O. And we do here about it, in the news, on cartoons, on commercials, in the store, by the state... etc. Well I know it didn't last long (thats why if you got it you were to email me) but still for those of you who wouldn't have known you now do, don't believe everything until you know the entire story. ^_^

DHMO is shorthand for Dihydrogen Monoxide (or something similar, my organic chemistry is rusty). The Di prefix meaning 2, and the Mono prefix meaning 1.
Wow. If the beans hadn't already been spilled, I would feel smart indeed.

Dihydrogenmonoxide-->This sounds like one word and is not how the chemical is written.
Dihydrogen Monoxide-->This is easy to read, and is also the correct way to write the words
If you had typed a little bit neater, I would have e-mailed you first, and I would have won! GRRRRRRRRR.........
Me, Seven, and Spooky all had to solve a similar problem in our Pre-IB chem class.

However, good work. You fooled me...almost. (I was pretty sure it was a hoax, but I didn't know what DHMO was.)
(And, I'll throw in a bonus for you guys. Tell me if this molecule is written right or wrong. If it is wrong, what's the actual name?
1,8-methyl-3-butyloctyl)

Oh and Goli-chan, it seems that there are three prefixes there and no "base" compound. So...err...*scratches head* I dunno.

Then again I am bent on world domination... ^_^ first Andora, then Djubiti... then.. the world!!!!!!!!!!!! um.. yea.. um.. okay.. um..... I'll be queit now....
there I was quiet..
Anywho... could be worse.. I could have done this and see how many votes I get.
"STOP WOMENS SUFFEREGE!" (thank you man show) I did this at my school after I saw it on the man show. I got to the lower 90's in female signitures before the VP took it away from me.
I couldn't believe that what had happened on the man show was true... but now I do.
So anyone else want to ban something I am sure I can make a misleading argument for you ^____^

Although, I'll admit I fucked up the trick by writing it with a -yl suffix as opposed to an -ane suffix. My bad. (Oh yeah, I made the carbon chain run really weird. It starts at the butyl and runs to the 8-methyl. Which was why I ended up confusing myself.)

But that word was used during a radio broadcast during April Fools day. They basically explained being a bad chemical in the water, and to call a certain place to find out what to do about it. I heard they got in trouble for that.
